UART101 Art Appreciation  A study of the elements and the principles of art as well as forms of expression from the major periods of western art. The course examines some of the greatest works in art form and iconography, to enable the student to appreciate the major works of painting, sculpture, and architecture. Reading assignments and a museum visit are interdependent and complementary. 3

Leadership Principles.   This course will increase the students knowledge of the theoretical aspects of leadership and of administrative roles within the church. Secular and Christian ideas of leadership are examined and applied to Christian education in the local church.

This course will help the student gain a clear understanding of God’s purpose, showing how vision differs from mission and identifying characteristics of godly insights and practical steps in discovering God’s vision for one’s life. workplace or ministry. The student will be given a game plan to stay focused, to effectively engage in the culture, manage financial resources and meet the never-ending needs of people in order to develop ministry. The student will be given a proven five-part strategy that will enable him/her and his/her ministry to grow in key areas.

Essential Team Interaction (Methods & Tools).   This course examines the dynamics of teams, how these dynamics change as team size changes, and the effect of leadership on the operation and organization of the team. It presents several tools for enhancing team interaction, building internal communication, and maximizing the potential of a team to achieve its purpose and goals.

UBUS440 Principles of Technological Marketing.   This course covers a new paradigm for direct marketers everywhere with the power and technology to today’s Internet. A step-by-step guidebook is provided to assist the student in making long lasting relationships with customers both current and new, based on specific wants and needs. Business Ethics.   This course deals with the ethical issues surrounding business operations, negotiation, purchasing, selling and interoffice personnel issues. The course will use case studies and other materials to examine a number of ethical issues that concern the business world, including economic justice, corporate responsibility, employee-employer obligations, consumers and advertising, and the environment.

UBUS455 Financial Management.   This course examines the elements of money, finance and economics with a view toward sound and ethical management practices. Topics included are wealth, poverty, giving, tithing and the difference between the ethical and unethical use of money. 3
UBUS470 Organizational Behavior.   This is a course on reality-based organizational behavior, explaining and predicting behavior in organizations in three levels: the individual, group and organization. Extensive examples of case applications and skill-building modules are explored. The student will be introduced to values, attitudes, job satisfaction, personality and emotions, perception and individual decision-making basic motivation concepts, understanding work teams, basic approaches to leadership, conflict and negotiations, organizational change and stress management.   3

Educational Models.   A survey of the methods used in education is addressed in this course. How and why certain methods work in different situation will be covered for a balanced perspective on educational delivery systems. Topics included are distance learning, home schooling, Internet courses, and a comparison of the traditional and nontraditional models.

UCED311 Theology of Christian Education.   This course is a comprehensive survey of the Biblical principles that justify the need and practice of Christian education. Historical roots are traced from the earliest commands of God to the people of Israel to the present day methods employed in religious education. 3

Curriculum Development.   This course offers a study of curriculum theory and principles involving the student in the preparation, evaluation and selection of instructional materials for the educational ministries of the church and school. Included is the solid coverage of the philosophical, historical, psychological and social functions of curriculum. The student is given examples of curriculum theory, development and design in approaching educational objectives and curriculum implementation models.

The student will develop proficiency through creating class plans that present information in a multiple of styles to facilitate learning. UCED404  Managing Educational Resources.  This course provides students with the opportunity to observe various methods of the complexity of classroom life and to establish a classroom climate conducive to teaching and learning.  Topics include organizing space, equipment and materials; communicating rules and routines; establishing high standards of student conduct and performance; and designing and implementing character education and service learning curricula.

Principles of Teaching.   In this course, students will examine various learning styles to determine their effect on teaching methodology. Several secular teaching methods will be reviewed along with the teaching techniques and methods employed by Jesus. This course is designed for the Christian schoolteacher, church schoolteacher or home school instructor.

UCED411 Learning Process.   This course is designed to develop the knowledge base relating to humane development, learning, motivation and educational assessment.  The student will implement the basic skills to analyze authentic situations and apply the theories in classroom decision-making. 3
UCED420 Classroom Management.  This course emphasizes ecological theory, while incorporating the principles of positive behavior, support and problem solving. Also addressed is classroom management theory and strategies that are necessary in preparing a functional behavioral assessment. 3

Student Teaching Project.   The student is placed in a primary teaching role in a church school and is responsible for writing and executing lesson plans, evaluating and testing students, while being supervised by a certified experienced teacher.

UHIS301 Survey of Civilization.   This course provides an overview of some of the great events and people in history, awareness of the people and events that still affect today’s cultures and society, and how civilizations differ, yet at the same time, how they are related. 3

ULIT201 Introduction to Literature.   This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of literary study and analysis. Students will be introduced to the fundamental elements of poetry, drama, and fiction; basic literary terminology; and strategies for analyzing texts based on close reading. Students will practice writing literary analysis papers based on these close reading skills and incorporating literary terminology and concepts. The course will also introduce students to some of the basic questions of literary theory. 3

The student is encouraged to mature spirituality as the Scriptural principles are discussed and put into practice in relationships with God, others and oneself.

Gospels  This course is a chronological study of the life of Christ that is informative, inspirational and practical. The study will relate to the parallel accounts in the four Gospels and divide the life and ministry of Christ into generally accepted periods. Through proper study and research, the student will have an understanding of Jesus’ example of ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Acts.   This course provides a thorough study of the content of the book of Acts with emphasis on the work of the Holy Spirit in the origin and growth of the early church. The journeys of Paul are studied in relationship with his epistles.

UPTH305 Spiritual Formation.  This course identifies spiritual disciplines for the journey of faith by emphasizing aspects of spirituality that are particular to Christian ministry; it examines stages of faith and personality traits as they relate to personal spirituality, ministerial responsibility and ministerial effectiveness; and it helps the student celebrate these disciplines.  It provides the student an atmosphere of wholesome affirmation and acceptance in which the nature of personal salvation and ministry in Jesus Christ can be examined openly and freely.
